Ryan gains confidence and a new job
Ryan, 26, joined the Work Programme delivered by Prospects, the employment, education and skills company, in October 2014. Up to that point Ryan had been out of work for two years due to ill health and had lost his confidence. Ryan did well at school and attained 5 GCSEs and also gained his IT Practitioners National Certificate and European Computer Driving Licence (EDCL).
What Prospects did
Ryan worked with his Prospects adviser, Helen and her colleagues for almost two years. He was supported through group and individual training sessions on topics including how to complete application forms, write covering letters, use job search techniques to find roles, ways to make an interview successful and Ryan attended mock interviews.
Understanding that Ryan needed some specialist help managing his money Prospects organised for Ryan to get impartial support and advice from financial experts, the Money Advice Service. Prospects also arranged for partners, Learn Direct, to deliver a Customer Service NVQ level 2 for Ryan and other Prospects customers in their home town, which Ryan successfully completed.
Ryan found all the help and advice from Prospects very useful. He took on board the feedback he received following his mock interview and applied this when he attended interviews.
Prospects helped him to rebuild his self-esteem.
Outcomes and Results
Ryan used all the new skills and confidence to find his dream job. He has started working at Curry’s/PC World and is now able to support himself independently in a job he enjoys.
Ryan said: “I now have a job I really enjoy and am getting on very well with. It gives me the opportunity to use all my skills in customer service, sales and IT. I would like to stay with Currys/PC World and work my way up into management.”
Ryan added: “Prospects helped me through training and on-going support. Attending Prospects helped to build my confidence and prepare me to return to full time work.”
