Prospects appoints Victoria Blakeman as Director of Offender Management
The education, employment and training company, Prospects has appointed Victoria Blakeman, former International Counter-terrorism Consultant and Head of UK Corrections and Detentions in Afghanistan, to develop the strategic direction of its offender management services.

In her previous role, Victoria advised the UK Government and UN on counter-terrorism measures in the rehabilitation of offenders and management of prison populations in places such as Somalia, Somaliland, Kenya, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Algeria and Tajikistan. Victoria was involved in the construction of and restructure of management at Lashkar Gar prison in Afghanistan. Victoria has previously worked in prison management in the UK at HMP Garth and HMP Chelmsford, where she was Acting Governor, after initially joining HM Prison Service to bring in a new perspective to change the culture.

Prospects plays a vital role in the prevention of reoffending by providing careers information, advice and guidance services to offenders in all London Prisons and Youth Offending Institutions. Last year, Prospects supported more than 10,000 offenders in the capital, from initial induction, helping them through to release and beyond. In addition, Prospects provides the same service to thirteen secure establishments in Yorkshire and Humber. Victoria brings her extensive experience of prisons and working with offenders in the UK and abroad, particularly in education and training, to her role at Prospects where she will lead on the development of Prospects offender management services.

Ray Auvray, Executive Chair of Prospects, said:
“We are delighted Victoria has joined us and will be sharing her wealth of experience with us as we develop our offender management services. As the largest provider of careers advice and guidance in the UK, we have vast experience of working with people to raise their aspirations and our approach in prisons is no different. In order to prevent reoffending, we believe that prison should be seen as either a place of work or a means to acquire the right skills and training for future employment. We want to make sure each offender is engaged in useful and productive activity, which will give them the tools to change their mind-set, revisit education and look towards a future out of prison, with a job. We look forward to working with Victoria as she develops the strategic direction for Prospects offender management services.”

Victoria Blakeman, Director of Offender Management at Prospects, said:
“This is an exciting time in offender management as the Government seeks to transform rehabilitation and justice services. It is against this backdrop that we at Prospects are developing and widening our offender management services. Prospects has extensive, experience in working with offenders to turn their lives around by preparing them for life after prison, with a sustainable job. I look forward to the challenge of creating this new directorate and leading Prospects work with offenders.”

Prospects is one of the largest providers of careers advice and services which are targeted at vulnerable young people. We deliver face to face careers advice in London, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humber, on behalf of National Careers Service.
