Opening up the City – Prospects City Summer School Scholarships

Prospects City Summer School provides young people with a unique opportunity to gain a direct insight into the variety of careers in the City of London.  The course aims to inform, motivate and raise aspirations for those considering careers in sectors which are traditionally difficult to enter, and for those that rarely consider careers in the City due to their social, environmental and family backgrounds.

Many of the professions included in the Prospects City Summer School are working to overcome a lack of diversity and social mobility in their fields but struggle to reach young people from all backgrounds.

Prospects, together with Shaw Trust, has created the City Summer School Scholarship to give all young people an opportunity to visualise a different future for themselves.  Students applying for the scholarship must attend state school, college or academy, in addition to meeting at least one of the following criteria:

  • live in one of the 100 most deprived wards in London and the South East
  • eligible for free school meals
  • are a Looked After Child or Care Leaver
  • belong to a cultural or racial group under-represented in the City

City Summer School changes lives:

“My daughter was with you for a week in July 2018, thoroughly loved where she was taken and the many people she met. It offered her an opportunity like no other and has changed the course of her life.

Since completing your course, she applied for an apprenticeship in the City and was successful in gaining one at Lloyds of London, a place she visited and was impressed with on your course. Now six months into her training, she is gaining valuable work experience, sitting Insurance exams and getting paid. All really thanks to the City Summer School course she spent a week enjoying.

I was really hoping I could book my son on a course with you to gain the same insights into possible careers in The City.

Thank you”
