Dan inspires other young people as volunteer and goes on to college

05 July 2013

The Youth Support Team in the Forest of Dean recruited a young person as a Peer Educator to join the team for the duration of the Inspire project.

Dan was selected for the role and he supported youth workers with the delivery of sessions for young people with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LDD), and helped the team with administration tasks. He also created a very useful sexual health and drugs resource for youth workers. The informative, creative card games and quizzes are very appealing to young people.

Dan showed great ability during his time as Peer Educator, as he was not only working twelve hours a week with the Forest Youth Support Team but was also participating in the Prince’s Trust programme. Dan also completed a 60-hour experience of work ASDAN programme.

Dan engaged very well with the young people and although his role as Peer Educator has ended, he has continued to volunteer with the Forest Youth Support Team at the LDD sessions and attends the Youth Forum. He has gone onto college and Dan’s confidence and self-esteem have developed remarkably.
